    No Valve Clearance!

I have had my engine running and it sounded real nice, buttherewas a misfire.A check on the cylinder compressions showed No5 was low, about half pressure of the rest.

I checked valve clearances and No5 was almost zero, about 0.1mm.Afterresetting this to the correct clearance I have just rerun the engine, and all is fine now.

I think the clearance under running conditions was zero and ths held the valve open. If left too long it would burn the valve.

I am really chuffed as I expected to have lifted the head to sort it.

Hi Chris, I hope that's not valve (corrected) recession ? Are you unleaded friendly ? Martin.

Thatcould be good for me then as all my inlets were about that gap, as long as i too haven't burt any out.I've gone on the 10 thou side now rather than the 8 though as i imagine over time they will close up and not get bigger.

You got the sprocket on the cam then ,did you have to take the front cover off? what a great design that part of the engine is BTW, not:?

      Cheers Steve

I managed to get the sprocket back on the cam but it felt too tight, so the timing cover had to come off! Yes its not a five minute job is it.
