    Radio - Electrical fault

    Hi All

Not Stag related but it is Triumph related

The radio/CD player in the wife's GT6 cuts out from time to time. It had a tendency to do it when the engine is revved or the brakes being applied. Can't see the connection between the accelerator pedal being pressed and the radio cutting out:shock:.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks

    Bruce

    Hi Bruce

I presume you mean it cuts out under acceleration or braking, in other words the car is under deceleration or under load? If so, it has to be a make and break in the wiring with movement, albeit small.

Just sounds like a duff contact/connection somewhere to me, fully check the power feed out, or run another if you are in a hurry. (i'v assumed that you lose power to the head unit rather than sound to the speaker(s) )

        Hi Andrew & Andy

Yes, when the car is in motion and yes its the main unit that cuts out.

Worth running a new feed and earth direct from the battery?

        Cheers

I would just run a spare wire feed from battery through window into car the wire up and test whilst driving, as this way it may save you time spent feeding a proper new wire and it turns outnot to be the problem.

Just a point to remember that the earth is just as a problem, so may not be the power feed, so check the earth

I agree about earth and quite often radios don't have the earth they should have - the earthcan beprovided by just the aerial - like on mine when I got it! So may be worth checking aerial continuity or, preferably, ensure radio is earthed directly.

              Cheers

                Bruce its long shot

does the radio have a removable facehave found in the past problems with the connection between the face and radio from constant removal.

Clean terminals up and sometimes have had to bend them out slightly to make better contact.

                  Hi Guys

This fault is still driving (sic) nutsI have run a new live feed direct from the battery. The earth was already direct to the battery.

With thecar stationary the radio/CD still cuts out when the engineis revved. WHY????

Could a failingHT coil cause a fault such as this?

                  Exasperation is setting in.

Bruce, like all fault finding, sometimes you have to try and eliminate some things. For example, I would want to know if it was the radio unit itself or not.

When it cuts is it the radio and CD that goes off?

Assumuming thats a yes, thenwhen you put a new live feed and return from/to the battery, you say it still cuts out.Did theunit actually go power off (off/on light?) or was it abad speaker connection? If you have alsoeliminated the speaker connection the you only have one option: to pull the radio/cd as thismust be the fault.

                      Chris

The whole unit shuts down. Have only tried it in CD mode. Will try in radio mode now that you have suggested that.

                      Thanks

                        Hi Bruce,

Have you got another radio one lying around you could try?

It does the same trick in all modes. I have a new sterio awaiting installation in the Stag. As you suggested I will fit that to the GT6 and see what happens.

                          Thanks for the support

Fitted the replacament radio today. Initial findings on the driveway look promisingFingers crossed it stays that way when the wife takes the car out tomorrow.

What is annoying me is that I doubt I can return the other radio to Sony under warranty as I can't find the sodding receipt. Grrrr:XDon't suppose they will simply accept a copy of credit card statment?

They could / should do !

Legally you only have to prove that you purchased it - provided failure is within a reasonable time etc etc.

Clearly, receipt is easiest proof of purchase, but lots do accept credit card statements. remember though, that your legal contract is with whoever you bought it from and not the manufacturer.

                              Good luck.

                              Cheers
