HEAT SHIELD

On the mk 2 there is a heat shield on the n/s exhaust manifold .Now I have the Weber carb mine is surplus to regiments so I was going to remove it but the bolts are seized what I need to know before I snap one is,do the bolt hold the manifold on as well or is it just the heat shield it holds on

Hi

As far as I can remember the bolts are screwed into blind holes and do not have anything to do with the attachment of the manifold itself, so snapping the bolts off won't be a disaster.

Just removed mine so I can confirm that!

By the way, I found no way of getting the heatshield off whilst the manifold is still in place, despite the screws coming out easily!! (Still, if it's scrap you can get anangle grinder on it!)
