positive supply junction on bulkhead - is there a cover?

Is there meant to be a cover on this juction of the positive supply.

I've just found it, to use for the supply for my headlights main bean as I was fiting relays today.

But it seams rather dangerous to have te positive open like this? Do i have some form of cover missing or are they all like this?

close up. bye the way, the steering column is out, that's why the uj is to the side of its correct location.

just been out to have a look for you but mine does not seem to have this I am afraid. I would have thought you would be able to get a cover of sorts from the auto electrical suppliers though? probably a good idea to cover it.

The one in my donor car had a rubber cap over each end. However, the Rimmers catalague shows the insulated bolt on page 93 but does not show it with the caps.

I suggest you cover it with some insulating tape or such like.

I believe it was only Mk1's that had this junction.

One of God's less succesful designs, Mk1 only. They've even been known to chafe through and dead short to the body, re-inventing fire and arc welding in one go. If it looks like that one, personally I would replace it with new, the rubber covers can be got from almost anywhere. Martin.

There was definitely a feature in the mag about this sometime in the last year. I remember it saying, as Martin has said, that it is only on Mk 1s.

Can't find the article but it may well be worth spending some time and reading back issues !

                  Cheers

                    Hi Sunnystag,

Do you know how it is - you get something in your mind and you can't let it go until you've got the full answer. Well, I've been like thatwith your query about the +ve lead cover.

Well, my previous post was correct.....almost. There WAS an article and after much searching I've found it - but it wasn't in the last year. It was in the May 2004 mag !! It's not that I've got a good memory, it's just that I was reading back issues the other day

If you haven't got the mag then send me a PM with your e-mail address and I can scan it for you.

                    Cheers

                    Julian

My MK1 post is clean and secure, but uncovered. How do the MK2's get voltage inside the car?

                        Hi guys,

One simple way of protecting the power stud is to take a plastic top of, say, an WD40 spray cot it to fit over the stud and cables with a hole for the end of the stud coming through it. Secure the cover with a plastic tyre valve cap. Even the threads seem compatible!

                        FWIW

pulled back the carpet inside, and it matched Rubce's photo. - that is it is covered with a cap!(inside the car)

clearly no cap on mine on the engine side, i am going to source a battery terminal connector cover for a bit ofsafety. All the wires seem in good order with no corrosion to the connection.

take it the triumph engine side cover would have been similar to the footwell side cover.

                          Thanks guys really helpful response.

Given the "quality" of the design i have remembered to move my fire extinguisher from the garage shelf into the boot!

There is a junction box under the washer bottle, where 2 brown wires tap off the main starter cable.

just to report back from the top phote in the post with the exposed live stud

decided the rimmer spart looked like the cover on the inside, but i could not see how it would cover the engine bay side wires ( would be interested to see other mk 1s here),

so undid nut lifted wires and slid a battery terminal cover over, did up the nut and slide cover over now looks like below. ( also bought and fitted covers to both battery termianls as these were exposed.)
