    Fitting a Radio without drilling?

    I'm planning to install a radio in the Stag while i'm redoing the interior and dash....... but I'm not exact sure how to proceed of 3 fronts;

firstly the (huge) hole in the dash is too big for a modern (70/80s) radio cassette - so how do I over come this problem (I dont really want to spend silly money on an old style classic radio (I want to have FM and a cassette to get the ipod working!)

secondly, I could fit a new speaker in the original place in the dash, but it wouldnt be stereo - so what sort of speakers are best to fit and where (without major work) - under the back seat - under either side of the dash - cut holes in the cibbies or door cars (not my preference)?

thirdly, currently there are no holes cut in the bodywork to fit an ariel - can anyone recommend an ariel that I could use - either clipped to the A pillar, or one which could be tucked away somewhere out of sight (like in the boot)?

    Suggestions gratefully accepted

(and I know. I should be listening to the radio, I should be listening to the engine!)

    Thanks

    A

I think some stag suppliers sell a suitable plate for modern radios, but you can easily make one from black plastic angle.

My preference for speakers is to fit removable speaker panels into the cubby holes without modification. Again you can but these ready made or make your own.

Maybe you can get stick on aerials that go on the windscreen? Try Google

I've got a radio insert from these guys http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/cfereday/index.htm to mount the standard radio in, makes a tidy job.

Can't help with the other questions, sorry - mine had already had speakers cut into the rear trim panels and the (electric) aerial is mounted on the rear wing.

I'd be interested to read any other replies you get about a speaker for the centre front as I wouldn't mind bringing the sound forward a bit!

Check out this thread for ideas about putting 2 small speakers in the original dash space

This coupled with speakers in the cubbies should give good all round sound. Personally I don't like to see the door cards cut as you lose the use of the pockets although the advantage is that you can then fit much larger/powerful speakers in the front.

I have a spare black plastic BosScreen adapter that I no longer need as my dash panel has been remade to fit a modern unit without the need for the adapter. I was going to list it on ebay but PM me if you are interested in this.

Check out the BosScreen website for more info. www.bosscreen.com.

You can get aerials that do not need to be mounted in the bodywork but I am not sure how good they are. My aerial is mounted in the NSR wing. Drilling the hole is straightforward just use plenty of masking tape to protect the surrounding area and be sure to use a punch to mark the spot and stop the drill slipping when you start. Then just paint thebare metal to match which will be hidden by the aerial anyway.

Ive fitted a Retrosound speaker in the dash - it has a double speach coil bass speaker & two tweeters. I made my own baffle plate to set it back from the opening in the dash as the speaker is a little bigger than the opening. It s a bit of a sqeeze to get it in but it just fits.

Through the one speaker you get both channels and the sound is impressive, I have also fitted a couple of Nakamichi speakers in the rear cubbies.

I bought the Retro sound speaker from the manufacturer in America as I couldn't find any supplier in England. If anyone wants any further information please contact me.

          Cheers
