    Replacing Power Steering pump hoses?

Couldn't believe it, just eased the pump back to remove the battery and the low pressure pipe snapped like a carrot I am sure it was a mixture of very low temps plus aged hose and I suppose I should be thankful it broke during maintenance rather than out on the road somewhere. But now the question, can the power steering hoses be removed from the rack with engine and all manifolds etc in place. I will get down underneath it when I have mopped up all the ATF fluid off the floor!

Yes. You can get a new rubber fitted to your metal bits by someone like Pirtek, it will fit without fettling, unlike much of the aftermarket stuff.

I was in a Pirtek place couple of days ago, and they won't re-use metal ends, or put new ends on an old hose.

Thanks guys I did think of getting new ‘rubber ‘ fitted to the old steel pipes but have ordered complete replacements for both pipes, if one snapped the other will be equally fragile.
Can’t wait to go into that freezing garage and lay on the equally cold floor!

It can be a very fiddly job, and you may need to 'adjust' the replacement pipes to ensure that they are not an interference fit with the steering column joint.

You need the double jointed hands of a small child to get the threads to bite into the rack, once that bit is done, it's relatively easy.

Ordered from Robsport 3PM on Monday, great service as parts arrived 11AM tuesday and I had them fitted by 3Pm. You were correct getting the threads started is the hardest part of the job needed slight adjustment to a couple of the bends to enter the rack in alignment but all finished now just need to pressure wash the split fluid from engine bay as when it split fluid went everywhere but somehow it doesn't seem the weather to get the jet washer out

make sure your dead square on to the rack threads ,very easy to cross thread ,as it is awkward to see and feel down there !
