Details available here: https://rimmerbros.com/content--name...le-Informationor the records are a jumbled up mess
When I took my dash apart to refurb iirc there was an August 73 date stamp on the back of one of the panels. The dash veneer all lines up and is original, the main dash panel has seatbelt warning and hazard plunger.
The wiring loom matches that of export? LHD with heater from 20001 . it has clearly been rhd all it's life and is listed as RHD export on the heritage cert
I did have the night dimming relay in the boot but removed that.
although the interior is currently black I have found bits of the original chestnut trim in places
everything else on the car is pure Mk2 door catches, interior lights, number plate lights etc etc
the engine number in the car when I bought it matches that on my hertiage cert. that engine died just after I bought the car
Body number matches heritage certificate but interestingly the other tag was completely blank and unstamped.
Both Ian (Milo) and I are completely satisfied that our cars have not been reshelled nor are in anyway different from our heritage certificates suggest.
yet both were built 31 Aug 73 and the commission numbers are exactly 300 apart
there is a conundrum for you.
date of despatch for mine to Hong Kong is not recorded, nor is the ship it travelled on. Mine was registered 1 dec 1973 under home delivery export scheme.
maybe we should have a thread dedicated to this to drive Peter insane :PStags and Range Rover Classics - I must be a loony

Hi Ya Chaps - I'm watching and am not insane yet but am thinking very hard.
Leyland built about 500 Stags in August 1973. About 300 in July, about 500 in June and about 300 in September. I have a number of heritage certificate entries in the register and the only one which is out of sequence is 2505x which was built - according to the owner - on 31st August when the sequence date should have been 10th September. Now Milo's is showing as also being out of sequence.
31st August seems to have been used as a 'default date' for some cars - or perhaps there were some cars which were held back at a point in production for some reason - maybe they were snagged at the end of the line on 31st August but not passed out with a comm no until some later date ?? Seems a bit far fetched though.
Has anyone who has a 31st August car done a glass dating exercise on all the glass ?
Seems like I'll have to do some investigating at Gaydon.
In the meantime, I would be very pleased to receive any extra information - perhaps a sticky thread Richard ?

Not necessarily relevant but conjurs up a parallel train of thought:
There's a car for sale at the moment which has a comm no in the early 30xxx series - but it is now auto when it came out of the factory as an overdrive car. Not an issue but it is also a different colour to it's original java (but that's not surprising). The surprising thing is that it has a 20xxx series dashboard - which would necessitate mucking about with the wiring loom or, at least, leaving out the seatbelt warning facilty. So is it kosher or has it been drastically altered over the years ? My real question is 'Why change the dash panel for one which has a different layout' ? Or was it originally fitted with an older style dash ? maybe by mistake and nobody noticed ?
