Choke cable swap disappointment

Went into the garage today to replace the choke cable which had failed for the second time in 18 months.

I decided to swap the choke and HRW switch to make the choke cable run more direct so I removed the old choke cable then the HRW switch. And then I discovered the gotcha - the holes are different sizes. You can’t put the choke cable into the hole where the HRW switch was without making a larger hole.

So the replacement choke cable is in the left-hand hole and the HRW switch is in the right-hand hole as before.

Posted as a warning to future choke cable swappers!

I swapped mine a few years ago, worth persevering with IMO, I found the new position meant that the demister pipe (corrugated thing) had to be slightly crushed/deformed though. The big issue was the wiring loom on the centre console, I ended up making a new one.

When pulling out the choke press the accelerator pedal and it will ease the strain on the cable. It may help to make it last longer.

I swapped mine, don’t remember it being a major problem Richard. I suspect a little bit of filing will sort you out. The HRW doesn’t clap about in the hole for the choke so don’t worry about that

I had same issue, but now have a Weber carb, fitted a single cable and mounted on a bracket out of sight under dash, works very well.Used vacated hole for warning light of EWP.

I swapped mine many years ago. It was a hassle but now don't remember what. Worth the effort though, suits my short arms.
