    Manufacturer of original Multiway connectors?

Does anyone know and the emphasis here is know, what was the original manufacturer of the multiway connectors, AMP, Molex, Lucas or someone else?
I am looking to replace some of the wiring and connector pins.

Also does anyone know if any of the tools in those cheap pin extractor sets on Ebay would fit the original pins and sockets or where I can get reasonable priced extractor tools that would fit?

I believe the type of pin is RISTE and Autosparks sells them. I don't see housings but as they make looms I assume they can also supply them.

      https://www.autosparks.co.uk/electri...connector.html

As to extractors, no I have not found an extractor that does both sides (male and female) You may find that one of them fits the male but the female is a problem, when I called Autosparks they said they use a piece of brass tubing to release them, and If I found one "please tell us!"

When I get a chance I will check which extractor fits the male pins.

Thanks Terry I believe the RISTE was a Lucas type and you can still get pins, sockets and bodys. Great idea re the brass tube to release them. I just need to measure the OD of the pin and socket and order some from Ebay.
The thing that amazes me is that 30cm brass tubes are 99p inc delivery from China, how can there be any profit in that?

I often buy stuff from Vehicle wiring products and their service is good but their 'terminal extraction set' for over £20 doesn't inspire much confidence when it says it removes 'most types'. I know mine will be the types not covered.

It is actually Rist's (Rist's Wire and Cables) They were (are?) in Newcastle Under Lyme, near to where I used to live. Owned by Lucas, or were.

Made my own release tool....a piece of 4mm silver steel with a 3.5mm hole drilled up the middle, then heated to red hot and quenched in oil... about 10 mins work.

here is the extractor tool I used for the pins and the brass tubing for the sockets.

The longest one seems to work (its marked black) but I would prefer a "AMP" type with the plunger,

I'm not really happy with the brass tubing - stainless would have been better but I could not find any with thin enough walls.

I work in electronics and have access to quite a few extractor tools but none worked.

Thanks Phil, That was some accurate machining, on a lathe I assume, but still only a wall thickness of 10 thou! Were these dimensions to remove the pins or the sockets ? - Alan

I had some success using an old artists brush. Remove the hairs and although it wont last a long time, it will undo a few pins/sockets.

                      Hi Alan
it was to remove the male pins, to change the wiper and indicator switch , this allowed the removal without stripping the steering column.

Needed to make a fly lead for the (auto) transmission once because I lost one.
Couldn't find anyone supplying the Lucar? 'church window' (7 pin) connector.
Ended up getting one from a scrap tr7 loom.
Some years later I found some n.o.s. at a car show / autojumble.
Still haven't seen any listed new though, so I also bought a couple of old damaged looms as a source of electrical connector spares, they were cheap & available compared to anything else (£30 or so)
