Mine is garaged (unless being used) with hood down. The garage is alarmed. If stopped when from home for say more than 15 minutes and will be out of sight, the hood is up. But not because of thefts, but in case it rains, or a bird or two poops on the seats when we are elsewhere! And I learnt the hard way.
Sadly if a thief really wants the car they will find a way to take it.

... or the rear window zipper.
Let's face it you can't make it secure for cabin entry!

Here are the two Specialist Vehicle Insurance Product Information Documents I have received. Both issued by ERS. One sent by Peter James (who will not consider having it amended) and the other from RH (the club approved scheme). In 30 years of SOC membership I have never used the SOC/RH scheme. I’ll leave you to deduce who is getting my business this year.

I have had verbal confirmation from Adrian Flux that theft cover is still in place with the hood down but the vehicle must still be secured.

That's a neat trick - thanks for publishing it worldwide.

It's hardly a big give away is it? Others have told the world on this thread you can rip the hood or undo the rear window zip so why have a go at me? At least opening it that way reduces the damage. Besides the Stag is hardly secure with the hood so I don't see as it is a great revelation.

Surely if your stag was stolen wouldn’t you just say it was locked with the roof up. They have no proof it wasn’t. You can probably unlock the door lock with a lolly stick.

In defence of Peter James their conditions are totally consistent with their statement to me as I posted in the first page,

                      "
There was a lot of humming and haaing and they then accepted that was an unreasonable expectation but it's very much based upon each case and they wouldn't be likely to be picking up a bill if I left my car outside my house overnight, even on the drive, with the top down."

Expecting anybody to raise the top of a convertible if they stopped to visit a shop is unreasonable...as long as the car is otherwise left secure, locked and with immobilisor activated (if fitted, I have). On the other hand leaving it outside overnight (I wouldn't) with the top down would likely not be regarded as leaving your car secure
                      .

I was in discussion with RH today regarding a quotation for both our Triumphs and when I mentioned what happens if the Stag is left with its hood down and was then nicked, RH said it would not be covered by their insurance policy. This contradicts the previous information posted on this thread.

                        Confusion reigns

Hi Bruce, I think you are being wrongly advised, Ring and ask to speak to Emma Airey, she is the head of RH, see September's mag

Perhaps I have been mis advised. However, it would be helpful if all their staff sang from the same set of guidelines!

Can you please advise me what it said in the September edition of the mag? My copy has long gone into the recycling.

                            Cheers

I also leave my top down for the reasons already stated ie. prefer the idiots to nick my fluffy seat covers without slashing the roof or damaging door locks etc.... Nothing else worth taking from inside my car. And yes I probably wood lie to the insurance company if pushed hard enough. Not really a particularly moral stance I must confess.
