I've just measured three used HE springs, two are 3.4 N/mm, one is 2.90 N/mm. Measurements are approximate. I've no idea what maximum oil pressure these relate to.

Correct oil pump spring?

A lot of the pressure relates to the length. A thin washer will add 10 psi to the oil pressure
Two thick ones will stop the PRV opening and will knacker your 100psi pressure gauge
No prizes for guessing how I found that outNeil

If you get an rv8 with 30 psi then apparently you have a good one.
Mine with new pump and new oil pressure relief spring and valve almost reaches 30 on the gauge when cold and will get back up there when above 2500rpm when hot.
When hot it shows about 15psi when doing 1500 rpm, but drops to about 10 when idling, which is just about what the engine revs at when doing 30mph in 5th gear.
That is assuming the gauge is accurate above 0 psi when stopped.
As Richard says, as long as there is oil pressure.....

My interest in this was to establish the oem spring rate.
county spring rate appears too high.
other springs on offer also seem too high.
keen not too have springs that end up allowing oil pressure that is so high it damages the tensioners.
I don’t share the concern I read about pulling away with ‘only’ 20psi that gave rise to another spring being made.
thanks for all the replies.
having done a bit of work on it, the oem spring by calculation, provides an approximate relief at about 40-45 psi. happy that value won’t damage the tensioners.
I only run a gauge at initial fire up after a rebuild.
