Re Chroming the rear Bumper

Hi . I was thinking of getting my rear bumper re chromed, does any one know what the cost would be? also can any one recommend somewhere in Essex?

Part of chroming involves taking out dents, reforming into shape, and then the actual rust damage on the surface. Each bumper is different and so will be the price. But start at £400.

I'd be surprised if Ray wanted that sort of money. he may even have one already done and just do a part exchange. That's what he did with my rear corners. £170 for the pair delivered IIRC.

That sounds really reasonable to me. I hear of quotes in the thousands, anecdotally.

The Lincoln bros were selling incorrectly made rear bumpers, they were OK if you had a MK1 as all you had to do was enlarge 2 holes. I bought one, about £120 or so IIRC.

i had issue with the quality of brothers bumpers when I needed one 15 years ago. was like tinfoil so it went straight back

I had an original bumper rechromed which is still perfect, though rust spots do seem to get through if it doesnt get polished often.sort on an annual event for me

I just had a rear bumper quarter with some pitting rechromed at ACF Howell, Walsall. They have a full order book, so had to wait a while, but great job and they come highly recommended. I would always prefer to keep original parts considering the low quality of many replacement parts.£120 for the quarter.
