Rear brake shoe adjuster: different shape and spring?

    Hi all,
by coincidence I noticed that the new brake adjuster kits offered e.g. by LDpart or Robsport look different to what I have in my Stag (first picture) or what is shown in the ROM. The second picture was posted on the forum and shows a different spring.
Could someone please shed some light on this?
    Klaus

Possibly just a different supplier of brake shoes, both springs keep the teeth on the adjusters engaged.

I just reused the original auto adjuster on the only set of new shoes I have ever fitted to my stag. sorry not very helpful.

I would be concerned if the design was different on something safety critical like brakes. maybe a call to Robsport to clarify the situation

        Klaus,

The first photo shows the only style of brake shoe auto adjuster I’’ve ever seen on a Stag, or on any of the manuals.

I must have missed the announcement of those. There is nothing about them on the SOCTFL section of the SOC website, either in the public, or member’s sections.....

DJT. Item 15 on the SOCTFL advert of the magazine every month. The components are made by the original supplier of the kits. I think small changes were made to allow them to fit other makes of car as well as the Stag.

Many thanks for your replies. I'm not sure wether my question in post #1 was clear for everyone so I have brought the two adjuster and spring types into one picture. Perhaps Mike (Lingen) can put his old SOCTFL hat on again and explain the reason for the old and new designand who made it.

I can see one benefit of the new design - if the brakes are too tight, it will be a lot easier to use a tool through the hole in the brake-drum to lift the adjuster.

Yes, I see that now Mike. I must have missed the fanfare announcement when they became available.....

The SOCTFL sections of the main website don't list them. But then it still has Mike Fisher's 2007 report to the AGM and the "Latest News" on panel production dated 3rd June 2014.........

Klaus. I'm afraid I don't know who re designed them, but both types came from the same original supplier.
As for the SOCTFL information being well out of date, thankyou for pointing that out. I will bring it to the attention of "The appropriate department" (ie. not me!) at our next meeting.

Yes David. And I find the new spring design of advantage as it assures that both adjuster parts are on top of each other and the teeth exactly engaged.

                          Thanks for the answer Mike.

I've never had a problem with my hand brake.
I found the initial adjustment of the brakes vital and when inspected I adjust manually from time to time just to be sure.
