    What's happened to the Forum?

Used to be I would get notifications of new posts in Threads I was interested in virtually daily,
but now I only seem to receive a notification once in a blue moon.

Is it a quirk of the new software?, or are people not posting as much as they used to?

There were quite a few threads were I had expressed an interest, and used to get lots of replies in them,
but hardly ever get a notification of a new post in them these days.

The Forum seems to have gone very quiet, or is it just me?

Nothing much to report regarding my own Stag, just waiting for it to go in (in April) for a new drivers door panel.
Otherwise everything is O.K. with it and still drive it every Saturday to the place where I play snooker.

    Terry

To answer both Terry and Bob, look at the top right corner of the page. The Notifications tab will have a red number indicating any new posts in any thread to which you are subscribed.

Beside that is the Messages tab for access to your PMs.

It’s definately a lot less used since the update, a great pity.

What I find particularly annoying is that Neil seems to have given up posting on his long term project, one of most interesting topics on here (for me) and that he’s worked very hard to keep all informed on.

I think it’s like all things these days, spice it up with colour and make change and forget functionality or customers being familiar with a brand or product.

I don't come here so much .. don't like the new format, seems extra work not to get to posts I am interested in, and to get to the last messages .. sometimes it's best to leave things as they are .. unless of course there is no other option than to update ...I have also noticed there doesn't seem to be as many posts .. but that might just be because I am not checking so often now ...

If you read page 5 of the March SOC magazine, Carl explains that one reason for the change is that “the previous version we have been using will shortly be no longer supported. This will eventually lead to security issues.”

I too didn’t like the new forum, but now find it no harder to use than the previous one. When we get the “New Posts” option available it should be even better.

Is the "New Posts" business still an issue? I get a plethora of methods to navigate in the new Forum, starting off with "New Topics" which takes me straight to anything that happened since last visiting, I get a blue "speech bubble" if a subsection has something new in it, I can go directly to the first new post, or directly to the latest post.

Whilst I find the graphic design irritating, I'm finding all sorts of new functionalities which I never found on the old Forum; it just takes time and dilligence. TBH, when the last version replaced the 2009 one there were also a lot of "why change things?" postings. The older 2009 forum had only the possibility to post one picture per post for example. Now we're moaning that we want the 2010 Forum back 'cos everyone liked the way it was!

I wonder how many people who regret change would prefer to walk 2 miles in the pi$$ing rain to a telephone box to ring the RAC rather than using a mobile / smartphone? Change 'reluctance' is not a sign of the times, it's a sign of age I fear! Our 18 year old starts getting nervous if Apple hasn't updated the software for over a week!

Not for me anymore, Drew, but it may help a few...

I've not occupied myself with it in detail at the moment but, when you write a pm or reply, I think just pressing "post" isn't the way, you have to press "send message" or something like that.
