    More eBay Fraud

    Now this is different and rather worrying;

Last weekend I put a virtually new wireless router on with a low start price and no reserve.. Yesterday I got notification it had sold for £20.00 and today I got an email from eBay customer Service to say it had been removed as the purchaser did not have a valid account with eBay their ebay account was shown as devonpor_6.

My question is (and I cannot get through to eB either by phoning or as a call back!) how can someone be on ebay without apparently having an account, bid for an item in eB, win it and then eB notify the seller who has won the item if they don't have an eb account?

While I cannot get an answer yet, it would seem that eB is absolutely alive with fraudsters who are not just selling things they don't have to sell but also trying to buy things they don't have an account to buy them with!

My theory here is that they hacked an old account on ebay (or there is someone in ebay more likely selling old account details to fraudsters) and they are using these details as bona-fide buyers - when they win something they expect the unknowing seller to send their details for payment giving their name, address, telephone number and (I know some idiots would do it) - bank details for the purchaser to 'settle his account'...

If I ever get through to eBay i'll update on this but for the time being at least I won't be using eBay for buying or selling anything!

    You have been warned.....again!

So, having now spoken with someone there she explained that someone could set themselves up as a guest and then bid and win but as a consequence of winning eBay would stop the purchase taking place via eBay as they don’t have a confirmed account - effectively meaning they push the unconfirmed purchaser to deal direct with the seller, which seems very odd indeed especially as I cannot make contact with the purchaser as my item has been de-listed..!

while I was at it I explained about the massive ongoing fraud with vehicles being listed using scammed accounts, being reported de-listed and being relisted under another scammed name.
I asked why there is no way to report all items en-bloc or the lister as opposed to each item individually and the response was they have to have concrete proof before they will remove an item suspected of being fraudulent - data protection and all that I expect.

So, nothing can really be done and these guys can go on conning - perfect!

This is an interesting one, a load of cars listed at 1/2 to 3/4 of their real value. Here is an example https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MGA-Roads...0AAOSwwARavWev

The account belongs to someone who sells 2K used cars, they have a few listed like this: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vauxhall-...kAAOSwihJZ4IaG

If you look at the style of the real listings, they are clearly different to the hacked listings.

There was a speedster, now ended, the details of which had been nicked off Freeads where the car was around 5K more.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vw-Karman...oAAOSwUUxavW5M listed for £14.5K in Weymouth

https://www.freeads.co.uk/uk/buy-sel...w#.Wr5yYS7wZtQ listed for £19.5K in Peterborough

      Cheers

It looks like the real account user has spotted it and has removed the dodgy listings..................

I tried emailing the acco7nt holder on one of them rather than “Berts son” or whoever just to see if it alerted them...
