I know the late Dolomites had the VIN stamped in the boot/rear wing area, but I think that was long after the Stag had stopped production. is yours an export car? Perhaps it was added due to an import requirement in a particular country.

Mine has the chassis number stamped on the drivers floor, a requirement of the Belgian authorities from when the car spent time there.

No, this is not a factory stamping. Why it has been done is probably lost in its history somewhere. The ‘norm’ is on a chassis plate attached with 2 rivets to the n/side door b-post, below the door catch plate.

She has the chassis plate but I always suspected this as being false as the riveting looked messed about with until I found the stamps on the turrets
interesting that No one else has these

That’s interesting as the underneath of the car is amazingly rot free
also she has a bw 65 fitted which for a 1974 car is odd

Perhaps a PO stamped it on as a security thing (a bit like having your windows etched).

Mine is originaly delivered to the Swiss. And imported to the Netherlands. It has the number on the turret the same way as Guerpillon. It is from 1975.

My '75 was bought at a duty free in Belgium and taken to Switzerland. It also has the chassis number near the right turret

mine doesnt have any extra stamps on it, 1973 export model to Hong Kong.

Not a bad idea to add a few in secret locations though to aid ID should the horrible happen

My dad bought a very tidy 1972 Range Rover from oldtimerfarm. We took the eurostar to get their and drank our own body weight in stella outside the eurostar terminal on the way home again

Even though he paid getting on for £18k for the car that was a significant saving on cars in the UK at that time

for anyone interested in early Range Rovers ^ is my dads car, Andrew StPierreWhite borrowed it for one of his promo videos

I guess some one must have loved her once although the things I am uncovering seems hard to believe
turrets stamps seems a good idea just don’t tell everyone
