I ran it up to about 1/3 on the temp guage and it seemed quite happy idling at about 600rpm according to the rev counter which was pleasing.
I did have a bit of a puzzle when it wouldn't fire at first (or second, third etc) and there was no spark at the plugs...until I remembered the secret isolator switch which some previous owner had installed Doh!
With reference to Nick (Westfaling)'s comment elsewhere - the missing floorpan (see avatar) is now in place and the other side patched up as well, though to be honest I've only done the minimum work. Having got part way through I realised that to do the job properly I would have needed to take much more stuff apart (which wasn't in too bad a state or at least had the bad bitswell hidden) so it would be best to patch it up for now and maybe in a few years think about a proper rebuild using a car rolling jig. It has been a useful experience so far learning about the car and my abilities (or limitations!)
I spent this morning collecting my new Fiat 500C - but guess what I'm happiest about

John.
