Dear all,
Just to let you know having swapped the engine I rebuilt into the Stag, it runs sweetly which is good news as it¡¦s the first car engine rebuild for me (have done plenty of motorcycles before). However, I thought I would mention the root cause of an annoying & quite significant gearbox oil leak that got cured during the change (manifesting itself by leaking through the drain hole in the bottom of the bell housing). I had previously fitted a recon box to this engine and had also changed to an extended clutch bearing nose. The oil was leaking through the coarse pitch threads bolting the nose to the casing. I hadn¡¦t previously read anything about this leak path so just torqued them up normally and fitted washers. Now I have used thread seal and copper sealing washers.
Thought it worth mentioning for anyone else considering tampering with this area!
Cheers
Mark
