Stag Wellseal and Cylinder Head Gaskets

I feel sure there was a post about this some while back but couldn't find it. I think the consesnus was that using Wellseal on the head gasket is a good idea. It would probably certainly help in getting the gasket correctly placed being as Wellseal is so tacky. If using it, would it be ok to brush Wellseal over the entire head surface or should one leave the fire rings untouched?

Any ideas most welcome!

Hi Drew,i have many times used welseal for this purpose and brushed on all mating surfaces heads and block and both sides of gasket including fire rings without issue . there should be any issues at all in fact only a good thing in my book.

That sounds good! Have you let it "go off" first or assembled wet-in-wet?

it requires to go tacky and lose the silvent drew like contact adhesive

On the cheap aftermarket head gaskets you need to use it, on good quality head gaskets such as Payen, Cometic or BGA you don't need to use it.

OK. I've got a stash of original Payens, so hopefully the right thicknesses will be amongst them!
