    Front Ashtray Bezel / Surround

    Hi all

As my weekends continue to be taken up with the re-assembly of my dash and console (many thanks to mole42 for the console plastic nuts), I came to my ashtray and found that although it goes into the void, it is very loose and moves from side to side. I assume when I take the car out it will rattle and annoy me.

My car does not appear to have the bezel/surround as seen in the attached picture from Rimmer's. Mine (the other picture) only has the sharp metal backing surround, called the Bezel Control Unit by Rimmers. I have no recollection of taking off the bezel, so can only imagine that a PO did not put it back on when a 1980's era radio was installed.

Just checking, is the bezel on both Mk1 & Mk2 cars? Or am I missing something else? I have not found any drawings that show the ashtray surround, so I assume it was never sold separately.

    Thanks

    Jeff

Thanks PJB. I ordered the used one from Rimmers as seen in the photo I attached. However only the ashtray arrived without the bezel. When I spoke to them they subsequently checked all their stock and none had the bezel so they are going to change the photo and description.

I did find this on eBay so took a punt and ordered it. I am hoping it is interchangeable as it does say it’’s for a Dolomite.

I modified my ashtray some years ago - it now houses a small white push button for my air horns, and a large black push starter button (see attached pic).

I also use the ashtray for switches but the switches are hidden in the ashtray when it's closed so that it retains the original look.

The two rocker switches in the centre are for the hazard warning lights (with red indicator light) and daytime running lights (with blue indicator light).
The two outer push button (momentary) switches are to open the garage door (black button) and to isolate the battery (red button) via the Battery Brain system.

Bit of a performance to get the four switches to fit into the ashtray but it works well.

Don't tell me your glovebox is full of gloves!!

                    Drew

PS. Don't Triumph call that flat piece of wood in the console a coin tray?

Drew - your opening up a can of worms asking what people keep in their glove box!
I have all sorts of stuff in mine, nearlly as many bits & pieces as in the boot, and no - the list doesn't include gloves.

I can't currently tell what I've got in there as the car is away at a Garage having the driver's door repaired, but I will check
when I get it back as I've forgotton everything I put in there, except the adaptor for my locking wheel nuts, plus a multi-tool "knife"
                      and a spare fuse wallet.

Just as a final note as this thread has drifted into other topics, it turns out the ashtray 'assembly' in this photo as posted by Rimmers is actually the door ashtray assembly from a Dolomite. The bezel does not fit the Stag console, although the ashtray itself does.
