Read in the mag of a (famous)stag for sale with a "langford ss exhaust",which was described as sounding rather good.UnfortunatelyI cant find any info on Langford. As my tired mild steel system is needing replaced I was wondering what the best system( and why)to get .I love the factory sound but wouldnt be adverse to try something a little spunkier.

Hi Scotstag
My car has a Langford exhaust on it, it was fitted when I first bought the car in 1982, just 7 years old then and it is just as good. But I think Langford no longer exist. There are probably only a couple of manufacturers now that supply all the retail outlets so but the best you can, unless you want to go down the made to measure route.

Thanks for the replies, guys. How about "whats the best system "to get from the current stag "specialists"?. Reading the Harperrs site ,they describe that their systems and welding as non magnetic unlike "other stainless steel exhaust manufacturers". What about the fitting kits? why arent these also life lasting ss. I have seen solid systems with very corroded u connectors.

There are quite a few people on here who have SS exhausts from a company called Longlife. They make up the exhausts to suit your specification. Mild/Mid Sport and Sport I think, depending on how loud you want to go

Guys,
I've had a Longlife exhaust for many years. They can custom build an exhaust to meet any requirement. Fior example, I wanted one which would exit beside the near side rear wheel and not 'fire' straight back. I pulled a caravan at the time and neither wanted the front of the caravan covered in sh*t nor the noise bouncing straight back. No problem to Longlife; they made one for me pointing out at 45 deg.
However, it was a little loud. The proprietor said 'many a young blade would give his back teeth for such a sound'. I said 'so would I, if I were 18; unfortunately for you, I'm 58!'. Anyway, they simply added another silencer box at the back and it's reasonably civilised now (but not too civilised!).
FWIW

Thanks,Peter,
I hace a longlife dealer half an hour away ,I didnt Know they did classics!.being a baby 46 years old I may just go for the fruity one (having ridden motorcycles for the last 34 years). Do any Stagites out there have an opinion of the R****rs or R**s**rt systems?
Hope this receives your kindest concideration,
Alastair.

They don't distort the pipes and are easy to remove (and don't rust).

Stainless is great but it has an incredibly annoying tendency to cold weld itself on the threads when tightening. These Mikalor type clamps are particulary prone to it, and a sod to remove once they've seized. Clamps that usecadmium plated bolts are better in that respect, but will rust eventually.

Robsport, Wards and several others are sound. Regarding the clamps, those SS ones are the bees knees and as Pete says they don't crush the pipes, but are very expensive. Curiously enough, the best sound comes from the cheaper systems, the steel's thinner and vibrates better, but do remember that all stainless steel will rust, it just takes much longer. My medium quality system has been on for 20 years and sounds ace.Martin.

If they should seize I can't see that it would beparticularlydifficult to cut the bolt.
