Morning all. Not an unfamiliar scenario. Car going fine, car stops going fine. In my case I blew a fuse every time i started the car - did it twice before I concluded it was going to get expensive with fuses. No I'm sure you all know that the 35A battery control fuse controls horn, cigarette lighter, B post lamps, console lamps, glovebox lamp, clock headlamp flash. Following some sage advice from more knowledgeable folk than me, I rigged up a bulb connected to a piece of wire connector and set to finding the culprit.
IGN at position 1, test lamp on no1 fuse holder = bulb bright. Bulb bright = short. Disconnect horn relay = bulb bright then I noticed the B pillar lamp coming on when I connected my bulb. Take out bulb from B pillar, bulb end cap falls off - it was an original bulb by the look of it (nothing lasts these days
). Bulb out of B pillar = test bulb barely glowing so I had found the fault.
A cursory glance at the bulb would bot have alerted me to its demise the test bulb worked a treat to diagnose. So bulb now out awaiting replacements and fuse not blowing. Just thought I would share in case there were some other non electricians out there (i am a complete duffer with electrics) who might find it useful.
Now to find out why the choke cable has suddenly stopped pulling the fast idle on - always something eh?
