Thanks all for your help. I have tried the carb cleaner method and also tapping the float chamber with a screwdriver handle and all appears ok at the moment!!!! I will change the filter on the n/s wing and hope for the best. If it happens again I will attempt to clean the float chambers etc hopefully with everything else intact?! Fingers crossed. Thank you for your advice , I may well be in touch DJT if things dont go as planned. Thanks again Steve

Unscrew this adaptor (7/16" I think) and the nut will fully unveil itself. I seem to recall it's an odd size (14mm?). Then you can lift the carbs of as a complete assembly.

There is no "setting up" to be done if you get at the float chambers this way as described by M&M. Be very careful not to put any load on the floats after unscrewing the housing as you might bend the metal tab which determines their position.

To be honest, any dirt in the float chamber has got past the needle valve to get there so is more a 'result' than a 'cause'. If there is muck there, you need to find the source ( or easier, replace the inline fuel filter in the engine bay!)

When you remove the float chamber housing you will probably destroy the gasket unless it's been replaced recently, so it would be a good idea to order some up now and, for good measure, add the carb pedestal 'O' ring to your order.

The best spanner fit I've found for that brass adaptor is a Whitworth one. I can't tell you what size off hand though. The battery terminals on mine seem to be Whitworth as well, the only other one I've found.

In the past I’ve found that brass spigot rounded off by DPOs. 5 minutes in a vice with a file and it can be squared off and a 7/16” AF spanner will fit.

Thank you all once again.... Great photo, makes it all clear now!! It's one of those things, if you have removed the carbs before it is obvious if you haven't then it is not quite as obvious!!!

If your getting new valves, for the sake of £1.40 buy the pedestal rubber sealing ring just incase its swelled up and distorted

Hi Steve, if you need a 3/16 whit spanner for the vacuum hose tail let me know as I have a spare, but as Dave said you may be able to remove it with a 7/16 AF or small adjustable. Good luck

Hi again just to give an update!! Took the carbs off last night when I took the float chambers off they had a serious amount of crud in there!! Cleaned them out and changed the needle valves which were sticky and gummed up. Tried it after and the pumped stopped pumping as it should and the engine fired as it should so all looks well?! I will take it for a drive today and hopefully it will be ok. Thanks again for your input,Steve
