    CV half shaft conversion

Hi All, I am going to do this CV Half shaft conversion having had both the inner universals fail in as many months and they were horrible staked joints. One leaving us stranded for some time.Thank goodness it happened at 20k. and not 100k.. My question is, Which is the best one to use? Is it a nut and bolt job? I have found two on the net, CDD and SC Parts, are there any others worth considering.
    Thankyou in anticipation.
    Cheers Ian A

I purchased mine from Robsport. They are supplied from CDD, Easy job just be careful not to over tighten the trailing arm studs, I did not remove rear brakes to fit either. Better with two people Done mine last year just before I took it for a mot

Hi Glenn, Thanks for that, I will check their website.
I also intend to replace the standard studs in the trailing arms with 3/8 UNC/ 5/16 UNF.
      Cheers Ian A

        Hello Ian,

I'm very happy with the driveshafts I bought from CDD.

Ditto. Very satisfied with them. Did find the S/Sties around the rubber boot fouled the inside of the trailing arm which necessitated a bit of filing of the latter. No probs otherwise

Good modification, the increased thread form of the 3/8th UNC stud will give a much more secure purchase in the trailing arm.

I have CDD driveshafts and there are quite a few more used in the SOC. The important thing to remember when fitting or afterwards in use is that the standard rear shock absorber length should be retained and remain fitted at all times, this is the only restriction to the rear trailing arm downward movement. If the shock absorber is removed and the rear trailing arm allowed unrestricted downward movement outside it's normal movement range it's possible for the CV arms to suffer damage as they are overextended and their internals are displaced (seem to remember large ball bearings but may be thinking about another) and trapped when the car is next used.
If you do wish to drop the trailing arm for maximum access you should undo the diff end of the drive shaft and just lever up the driveshaft hubs from the diff bolts to allow all the CV drive shaft to move downwards without extending. A version of these CV driveshafts are used on TRs and there it is much more critical because of the more restricted under car access which means undoing a shock absorber is a way of gaining a little more space and damage has been caused to the driveshafts because of their overextension.

            Micky

PS: check out the search box, the CV driveshafts have been discussed before.
