Experimenting with fuel and temperature gaguge

My '71 Stag, based on the temp. gauge , always seemed to run warm ( temp gauge rarely sits to the left of vertical) so this weekend, I decided to do an experiment. I ran the car until it ran out of petrol. ( I normally don't do this as I don't want crap from the bottom of the tank entering the carbs. ) So if I divide the gauge between E and 1/2 into 10 equal parts, the gauge on empty sat above E at about 1/10.

If others have done a similar experiment, can you let me know where the pointer sits on an empty tank?

Based on this offset, I'm making the assumption that the temp gauge reads slightly higher too.

On a Mk1 Stag if the needle of the temp gauge is vertically pointing down, what is the approx. engine temp?

    Regards, Sujit

My fuel gauge shows no more than 3/4 even when brimmed.
Its been a while but empty is just below 1/4 too!

Based on the standard fitment of the temp sender in the LH transfer housing, does anyone know the actual temperature of the sender when the original temp gauge
      The answer isn't 42, it's 1/137

My mk1 has the gauge that has the temps 50 - 90 - 140 marked on the face.
The needle pointing vertically down is on 90deg and was surprisingly accurate last time I checked with an infra red thermometer.
