    seat backs

hi chaps, gonna try and fit the foam backs to the seats. before i go and buy some, are they ok to fit? if not i ll get omeone else to do em.

they look quite tricky, got my seat in piecies, the foam has disintegrated

I fitted them to my mk1. They needed a small amount of trimming but I didn't find them particularly difficult to fit.

You do have to be careful not to overstretch the covers and break the stitching especially at the base of the side cushions.

If you have a mk2 there are some new foam kits that are in one piece and supposedly easier to fit.

          Hi marty

I am currently refurbing my front seats, I have found it difficult to get a really nice job and so have relented and taken the whole lot down to trimmers. I found it difficult to get all the puckers out of the vynyl, might be easier if you are reusing your old covers, mine were in poor condition.

I purchased the cover sets, foams for back and cushion and diaphragm from aldridge trim, the quality is very good, the back foams came in 5 pieces, I have seen the one piece foams but am not sure they are a good idea as you will have to cut them vertically and horizontally where the webbing pulls through the foam to give cover its shape, if you have stripped the seat you will know what I mean, it seems to me that it defeats the object of a one piece foam, perhaps someone else can shed light on it.

          good luck

          Mick

I looked at themat National day, on the Robsport stand I think.

Marty, not sure what you mean by the angled steel but the side foams of the one piecelooked the same design as the separate ones. They just slide over the seat frame.

Also, make sure you fit the seat covers in a warm environment.

I saw on TV once a refit of some seats. There was a good tip, wrap cling film on the foam and the vinyl covers slip on much easier.......I think :?

May help but not so much of an issue on stags as the covers wrap around the foams rather than having to be slid on from the top of the seat.

                            Hi Marty

Have you looked at fitting the new one piece foam backs yet? I am interested to know of anyone that has done this or is about to do this.

I see on EBay they are selling the head rest foams as well now
