SOOOOOOOO simple, As my car was already Tax exempt I called up 0300 790 6802 and talked to a nice Welsh lady who Taxed it (free) and also freed it from the MOT at the same time. SIMPLES :-)

My tax isn't due until November but MOT is due July - not sure whether I'd run into trouble if it was showing up as not having an MOT even though it won't need one... I intend to get it MOTed anyway but it'll just be handy to know I don't need to worry too much about emissions or chips on the windscreen etc.

I rang DVLA last week, they said to update mot exemption next time it's taxed.Originally posted by Scar View PostMy tax isn't due until November but MOT is due July - not sure whether I'd run into trouble if it was showing up as not having an MOT even though it won't need one... There is a dvla software problem .
i could not see the option to declare VHI -vehicle of historic interest- when taxing my car. So taxed it anyway. After useless generic responses to emails I sent to dvla, I phoned up Swansea. The lady i spoke with saw my problem and had to go and speak with a colleague, she then told me there is a known issue where not all dates of manufacture are being picked up and that has happened to me, so in these cases ,at present, the VHI option won't appear!! She said their "support" are working on a fix and all will be fine next time I need to tax my car. So I asked am I legal when the MOT runs out and she said "yes"......

Taxed my Morris Minor last week, already historic class, no MOT since the 90s and that page doesn't show red the warning box and where yours shows "MOT expired on" mine says, "First MOT due" with "Unknown" written underneath. I phoned DVLA and they said it doesn't need an MOT as it's already classed as historic VED class. So it appears that no action needs to be taken if it's already Historic and you can continue driving without a MOT after it runs out.Originally posted by 72BLUE View Post

I've just received a V11 from the DVLA this morning reminding me that the car needs taxing from July 1st. However I'm not sure they are up to speed because it also says "this vehicle needs an appropriate MOT certificate" which is does have but there's no mention of any exemption on this document. It does say that you no longer need an MOT for pre 1960's vehicle but makes no mention of the 40+ year old exemption. perhaps they are using up old forms??The car was changed to Historic vehicle last July just after I bought it so there's no problem there.

I intend to keep my car MOT'd but it just seemed strange that no exemption box was shown on the renewal I received. As I said perhaps they haven't got their act together yet.Originally posted by malc4d View PostAs my car was already Tax exempt I called up 0300 790 6802 and talked to a nice Welsh lady who Taxed it (free) and also freed it from the MOT at the same time.
