    rear adjustable shock absorbers

    Dear Stag friends,
My Stag needs new rear shock absorbers. I have one part number from AVO: TC137. Does anybody know, which other modern brands (Spax, Koni, etc.) are compatible? It would be great, if you had a part number.
    Best wishes,
    Dieter - from Germany.

    Hi Dieter,

I have Koni shock absorbers and fined them to be very good. Sorry no part number but if I remember right they are sold under the Koni Classic tag.

    Kind regards

Dieter, I fitted a pair of used Gaz adjustable units around 10 years ago as they could be adjusted when luggage and kids were carried. As this is rare now they're set to the softest setting. Don't think I would go this route again. Probably spend the extra money on quality standard units.

I have GAZ adjustables, very useful when I’m towing a trailer or competing on a historic road rally. My car also has harder springs from a 2500 estate.

            Slight thread drift...
When I first bought my Stag back in '86, it had Monroe ride leveller rear shocks.
This had a mini electric compressor fitted in the boot, and an under dash display.
You simply pushed a button on the under dash display and the rear of the car would rise as the rear dampers air collar inflated!
A push of another button and the air collar would deflate.
Also it had an air line so you could use the same compressor to pump up your tyres.
It was primary designed for towing.
When I rebuilt the car I stripped the whole lot out, sold the kit on, and fitted adjustable Konis.

              Hell,
Does anybody have the part numbers for these adjustable shock absorbers (GAZ, Spax or Koni)?
              Best wishes,
              Dieter.

                Hi Dieter

This is based on my private research. You have to check to make sure they are the correct ones (I might be wrong, no need to buy any just yet, fingers crossed)

                  Dieter,

I had problems with shocks length on my TR6. As the rear of the car lifted the shocks "topped" out before the suspension stopped travelling.

All suppliers insisted they were "correct" for my car despite the car lifting a wheel when the shocks ran out of travel.

So I would recommend that you firstly measure the suspension travel from maximum drop (car jacked up) to bump stopped minimum length and ensure you buy suitable shocks, encompassing your range of travel do not just specify "ones for a Stag".

Incidentally Gaz then made me an adjustable set to the non-standard length I needed within a couple of weeks and they charged me less than retailers were selling their standard shocks, and they transformed the handling.

No connection just a very satisfied customer.

                    Hello all,
I just bought two GAZ GT4-2113 shock absorbers. Couldn't get them from my local shop, so I had to buy from Limora. Thank you all for your inputs.
                    Best wishes,
                    Dieter.

Hi Dieter, could you let us know how you get on with these, I’m looking to change my fronts from space adjustables as they are very hard even on the softest setting
