Help with rebuilding a manual gearbox.

I'm about to put in the countershaft gear assembly in the box, the ROM says to apply grease to the bearing to hold it all together. I'm sure I'm going to have trouble putting in the shaft and making sure it lines up. Am I correct or am I over analyzing it too much?

Also please take a look at the attached photo. Is that spacer with the groove the right way round? For reference, the end of the shaft which goes into the overdrive is on the right

Yes its a fiddle , work a brass rod or something similar through the lot first to stop anything dropping right off, then feed the shaft in, pushing the rod along and out.

On the bushing, line the groove up with the oil holes.. picture here of second gear shows the wear pattern inside the gear, and the oil hole at 10 oclock.. and I seem to have the bushing the right way up!
