    Coolant Mix

Aside from slightly lower heat transfer properties does anyone know of any downside to using neat antifreeze?

Thicker, so more load on pump. Cost, although ethyl alcohol antifreeze is still fairly cheap.

30% in water is fine. Change it every 2 years.

ethylene glycol has a lower heat transfer characteristic so it would run hotter. I use 50% in my car. Thanks for the reminder Dave, I haven't changed it this year!

Toyota red, 60 water - 40 red. Leave it in for 5 years allegedly, although I might change it at 4 years. Careful though as there are 2 Toyota reds I believe, don't buy the pre-mixed, get the neat stuff for vehicles of our age. Best to do a bit of Googling first, but has been recommended here on the forum many times in the past

          Cheers

30% glycol 70% distilled water is what I’ve run for years, will be changing it soon while trying (in vain) to cure its leak into the V

Hi Jason, Since I bought my Stag a few years back it always used to leave a little water in the V after being used. I guessed it would be the pump or the inlet manifold at fault. However after I renewed all the coolant hoses and the steel pipe that runs parallel with the RH head, the leak disappeared.

You may get lucky like I did???..............

Anything that puts more load on the pump is not a good idea.

Link gives many more reasons why “waterless” is not a good idea.
