Reversing light switch

I know where the reversing light switch is on my manual with overdrive.
There are lots of posting telling how difficult it is to get at. Quick look in the Repair Operation Manual before I begin and it tells me to remove the centre console, locate the switch etc. Great, as I don't have easy access to a lift! But surely that cannot be correct, or am I missing something.

There is a big rubber bung under the centre consul. Take it out and you can just about fiddle with the switch.

Thanks Malc, but that's a different switch. It makes/breaks the circuit to the overdrive solenoid to ensure overdrive can only be engaged in 3 and 4 forward gears.The reversing switch is on the side of the same top cover, but the wrong side for access via that bung.
