MOT exemption

It's a crazy idea . I told my friend who runs a vw garage and he couldn't believe it
it won't be long till cars are laid up then brought out at the weekend with seized brakes , vermin damage and general leaks etc It's the inocent people they hurt that's the worry.
The law is there to cover these idiots not the very clever people on here who clearly know what they are doing.
Cleary another classification should have been created .

As I understand it you can only claim MoT exemption at the time of taxing the vehicle. If the MoT runs out before the tax you must put another MoT on and claim MoT exemption the next time you tax it. I intend to claim MoT exemption but have an annual safety check done.

I just called the nice Welsh people at the DVLA to ask and she said "shall l make that change on the record now for you...? so l said cool, thanks. Simples

I did mine online, although tax runs out in October I just taxed it again, website just says you may loose some money because tax will start from 1st June (being free it makes no difference), then as you process it says this car is eligible for MoT exemption, just tick the box to confirm, job done.

I did the same. No mention of eligibility for MoT exemption was given during the process although my car is listed as 'Historic'. So I'm still stuck until I get a reminder next year to enable me to make a declaration.at the Post Office. However, I phoned DVLA today and was told that provided the car is registered as historic and no 'substantial changes' have been made in the last 30 years the exemption is automatic.
