Fuel starvation

i took my stag which has become more difficult to start out today, it ran for 500 yards then died with the fuel pump continuity to click . It wouldn’t start again but left for 4 hours started but again only ran for 500 yards before dying again the pump again continuing to click all the time.Any suggestions please

First and easiest place I would look would be the gasket on fuel pump inlet side from tank drawing in air air. So pump would be pumping air to the engine not fuel. A small vacuum is needed to raise the fuel from the tank. Best test: remove filter in engine bay, fit delivery hose to bottom of jam jar, turn on ignition fuel should fill the jar with no bubbles.

If that is OK then a leaking fuel valve in Strombergs.

No other reason (if you have petrol in the tank!) for pump to run continuously unless pump is broken, but that not too likely.

+1 on what Alan suggested, see if the fuel is actually being delivered cleanly and go from there.

Just had a similar experience with my MGB, Initially I was sure it was fuel starvation but in the end it was the opposite.

Do you smell anything? not being able to start for 4 hours could be because its swamped with fuel but once it dries up a bit it will start..

The pump clicking could be a sign of a float valve being stuck open, but the fuel will be going somewhere.

Also worth disconnecting the fuel filter (passenger's side under bonnet) and give it a good shake. If it's full of rusty crud then replacing that might solve it.
