    Rubber door hinge inserts

    Dear All,

A few years back I bought a pair of rubber door hinge inserts that prevented the doors from opening too far and too quickly, does anyone know if they are still obtainable?

I've not seen them advertised for some time now

My MOT tester swears every time he opens the driver's door; it doesn't open as far as he expects and he bangs himself on the window frame. They've only been fitted for about 10 years. You would have thought he'd have learnt by now.....

As for where to get them; the paperwork I have has the following:

      Richard Allen

      www. hingelimiter.com

The website seems to be unavailable now......

I have these on my car, fitted them as my wife tended to let the door swing open.

Ironically, the first trip out after fitting them a fellow stag owner let his door swing open into my car.
Still can see the magenta witness mark if I look hard enough.

I might have to look at this in more detail, seems like a project for flexible filament in the 3D printer!

                Thanks everyone.

I've attached a photo showing the hinge limter in situ (you can just about make it out). It's a shame they're not available any more, a friend is looking for a pair to stop him nudging his garage wall as he gets out of the car

Why doesn’t he just put a piece of old carpet on the garage wall?

He has got carpet on the wall, as I have too, but with the best will in the world he still manages to occasionally fling the door open with unsettling force. Anything that could reduce the impact would be of benefit.

Is it my imagination, or isn't there supposed to be a check strap to limit the door? I seem to recall as a teenager that dads Stag had them but they're no longer there but could have been removed after bodwork was done.

There are no check straps on the stag doors. The top hinges have a spring loaded limiter built in to them.

I have them fitted to my doors, best thing ever with a young family, as they tend to be careless when opening the door!

Lateral thinking, but would a piece of heater hose, with perhaps a piece of fuel hose inside do the same job?

They are a straightforward rubber extrusion. I’m sure they are available out there somewhere. Has anybody bothered to try phoning or emailing the original supplier? Contacts in post #3 above.
