Window winder motor

Hi all.

I've developed a wee problem with the window motor on my drivers side. It has been working well, but is now raising and lowering by only two inches or so and then stopping. If I repeat the process often enough it gets to the top or bottom but not in one go if you understand. If I assist the glass by hand it helps a bit but still stops every two inches or so.

Before I dive into the door, could anyone suggest what I am most likely to be looking for ?

Never had a problem like this. It could be the thermal circuit breaker (lives on the relay board under the parcel shelf) operating and then resetting. If it's only happening on the drivers side then I'd be looking first for stiffness in your window mech. The circuit breaker serves both window circuits. If the problem is suddenly occuring on both window mechs, then suspect the circuit breaker having gone out of spec.

Or it could be a dodgy motor or intermittent connection.

Not easy to work out from those symptoms and not sure when things were last checked/lubricated/serviced. So a few things need to be checked here. Could be what Jonno has said.
Drivers side only problem so start there. If nothing has been recently touched in this area the usual steps required; Clean/check window switch internals. Clean/check motor arm assembly, grease goes hard, pivot point hole elongates, also rusts in some countries. The usual motor issues like brushes etc. Plus check /clean lubricate where the arm meets the glass and check/clean/lubricate motor gears, grease could be very old. Overall its quite a good design and easy to service. Check the excellent write up in the Tech section of the forum.
