Anyone on the A28 on the way to Calais?

on the way back from Le Mans and pulled in to BP service, if anyone is passing, we are about 80kms south of Calais. We could do with some help. Dramatic loss of power up hills, temperature and oil pressure good. Waiting for cool down to check fluids and anything obvious with ignition. Help welcomed. No helpful comments like ‘avoid hills’ but it might be mainly downhill from here..!

Yes to misfiring! Spluttering yes.

What ignition system are you using? I had similar with both Lumenition and PowerSpark.....

I have had these symptoms twice, first time was a carb diaphragm second time was carb linkage had become disconnected soI was only running on one carb.

Think Mole42 is on the right track, I would think it could well be an electronic ignition system problem.

Plugs oiled up but now cleaned. On our way again. Should be OK to get home but will need to sort oil getting into cylinders 7 and 8.

I used to have occasional power loss when travelling at speed which was cured by replacing the SU fuel pump with a modern contactless one - if the other suggestions don't work then maybe consider this one?

Don't forget the ignition coil. Hard to check without substituting another coil, but if in convoy with another car then perhaps a quick swap between cars for a few miles. If the plugs don't fire then the plugs soon foul.
