    Fuel filter

Anyone ever seen a fuel filter go like this, replaced around 6 months ago. Can't remember where from but would have been one of the usual suppliers. Fuel pipes seem to be very hard also. Ethanol??

Steve, I had the same last year. I had bought 2 identical looking filters from respected Stag suppliers and the first one I fitted looked like this after only a couple of weeks. The plastic body became very soft and deformed due to the bend on the hoses. Since replacing with a genuine Unipart filter it has been fine for 12 months.

Mine shows the same deformation, I have just replaced with a spare but I think i will find a new one as I don't remember where I bought this one.

I was told it’s due to high amounts of ethanol in cheap fuel “melting” the glue. I’ve changed mine for two separate units, one in the engine compartment and one in the boot, both from Ratsport, one is see through and the other a metal casing. No glue or paper to distort, but note to self, don’t empty the filter by removing the pipe closest to the engine otherwise you have to disassemble the carbs to remove the rubbish that you dislodged when you put the pipe back on :-)

I swapped mine for a Filter KIng. Glass bowl, replaceable paper element.

A really good product for the Stag is a Peugeot filter made by Purflux which I use since 20 years+.
(Peugeot no. 1567.20), Purflux no. EP58. You find lots of offers when you google purflux ep58.

BTW: if you renew the fuel hose between filter and carburettor it is wise to flush the hose part with fuel before installing it. The last picture shows the cutting debris which I found in the filter after renewing part of the fuel hose which goes to the filter.

Thanks Klaus, good to have a back up supply, I currently use 2 unipart filters one before the pump and one in the engine bay.

Just discovered the same problem. The filter looked ok from above, but the underside is rotten internally 673DF1F4-E0C5-4FF6-826E-2C304802E4F2.jpeg6537D00F-DA28-467C-B4EB-00DF0A8122C2.jpeg . It came from one of the respected suppliers, but not sure how long ago. Ive just received a box of 5 of exactly the same filters from eBay. Fitted one for now, but will be looking for a decent alternative.

Time for all to check their filter I would suggest.
Also our main suppliers should take note.

Due carry out a service on mine before a European tour in late August/September but in view of these reports thought O wold have a quick fuel filter change.

                    Guess what.

Looks like not just the element disintegrating but also the plastic softening.

Could have been supplied with a diesel filter.

I have notified the respected supplier. He has asked me to send him my filter so that he can take it up with his supplier. He is, thankfully, concerned about his brand reputation.

At least 2 Stag parts suppliers are selling these filters as I bought the 2 I had from different suppliers. As I wasn't sure which one had failed I couldn't really take it up with them. I must remember to dispose of the other unused one next time I have a clear out.

Anyone using rigid plastic fuel pipe from pump to engine bay?
