Where is the engine number ?

I may be stupid or blind or both but I cannot see the engine number. I've got a workshop manual and it says left hand bank on a machined tab but I cannot find it. Unless it has been removed.............

It,s only there on very early cars. Most will have it where the block meets the bellhousing at the end of the v near the distributor / coil area.
Can be hard to see.

Yes - that's where it is on my '77 model, I had to clean all the dirt and grime off it when I Imported the car to Tenerife so the "Tester Mechanic" could photograph it and compare it with the log book.
