    Rear yoke stub axle

Upon having a good looksee and general cleaning around the chrome wires I noticed a little play in the nearside rear drum, so I undid it..Ah...yes...The slot for the key that secures the rear drum and bearings etc is seriously chewed in the stub axle , not certain how it still works to be honest.
Is there a source for the rear yoke stub axle ..I checked the usual Lincolnshire suppliers and he has one but £120 each..
    any suggestions?
    regards

l went for new updated hub/bearings when l had the cv driveshafts fitted.
all down to personal choice and of course cost.

Are you saying you have undone the large nut on the stub axle and .the brake drum has come off with the bearings?
if that is the case then the hub sounds like it is broken and you need a complete new hub.

Yes the bearing is stuck in the drum and the stub Axle is shot to pieces..as I said i'm really not too certain what was holding it together.
I've ordered another complete recon hub/stub/ bearing unit complete .from Fitchetts.
Is it an easy fit as a complete unit?

Hoping not to distress you but the prognosis about our IRS Innsbruk Cars ( Stags, big Triumph saloons and IRS TRs) in the TR Register, is that the original hubs are dying, ( this from a specialist non destructive testing engineer who is Aerospace trained up to Concorde level before they were retired, he has a TR4a).

After 50 years faithful use the general wear and sometimes severe abuse ( TRs especially...for lo they are driven like Jehovah) where who knows the number of kerbs they've hopped over or weekends they've been raced and oversize tyres fitted have taken their toll and hubs and original stub axles are now featuring in reports of ...then a wheel passed me, bugger it's mine, how we laughed !

If the car has standard hubs and hasn't had rear wheel bearings replaced or new stub axles fitted then it's possible it will soldier on for a while, but where excess play is apparent in the hub or damage apparent on the stub axle any "refurbishment" will likely require a deal of force applied to the rear hub or stub axle to split them which in itself will possibly cause damage which lies in wait for the next miles to cause absolute failure. If you check the search box facility under "rear hubs" you probably come up with quite a few failure reports and as reported " reconditioned" hubs lay in wait which offer no guarantee against imminent possible failure.

Make a choice on which driveshafts you wish to use, original, CV or others failure there will only cause lack of drive, but use new hubs preferably with uprated components to safeguard you and yours.

Straightforward job, only problematical area is the studs in the trailing arm have a tendency to strip threads in the aluminium.

You can just undo the nuts from the studs and pull off the hub with the outer half of the driveshaft attached.

Hopefully your car has circlips on the driveshaft UJs - if they are staked you will need to get them machined or replace the shaft.

Pete here (Redstag) has had a run-in with rebuilt Stag hubs with both his rebuilt units failing within 18 months - here's one
