Ignition coil

Hello,I am considering moving my coil to a cooler place ,ie the firewall area,just above standard place but fastened horizontally,this seems to be a popular mod.

However I am a bit concerned about what I would be screwing into,ie safest place dont want to puncture anything cables in dash etc,will be using self tappers,

Any advice/photo please from someone that has already carried out this change.

Hi Mark,
I moved mine for the same reason, and to get better access to the dizzy and the vee area in general.
There are a couple of threaded holesthrough the firewall on the drivers side, below the chrome grill, and I made a bracket and used one of those tapped holes.
Just one other thing; I was advised to keep the coil upright rather than horizontal, but cant vouch if it's a definite advantage - but did it anyway.

No Bruce,not that clever it will stay put,module is on inner wing in cool place anyway.

I will need to check my existing wires to coil are long enough anyway first.

HI Mark,Peter,Bruce,I was getting intermitent problems several years ago I thought it was heat soak especially on hot summer days (when was that) Iwas advised to fit an uprated sports coil but i took a gamble and moved it to bulkhead on drivers side ,a tip i got from stag mag way back in the 80's .Never had any agro since and i never alterd the position of my luminition ,mine is on near side inner just behind pdwa .Regards Tony.

Found this on a website.

" if the coil is oil-filled and when it's turned on it's side, there is an air bubble at the top of the coil that will move down over the windings. This can cause the coil to overheat and possibly fail ".

Thanks Sukh,thats agood point,I must therefor assume that the ones Ive seen fitted horizontally on other Stags at National day etc,must be of the resin /epozy filled varity as per the expensive Flamethrower etc.
