    Car Warranties

Has anyone benefitted from being covered by a car warrany such as RAC or Warrany Direct?

They all seem to have clauses in the policythatwould not covermany failures that might occur after buying as used car. So is it really worth having?

I have warranty direct on my Porsche. I did need to claim for a recovery as my tracker drained the battery. No problems. They cover the cost of parts / labour up to thevalue of the car. I know of those who have had engines replaced without issue, and at close to £10k a time I think it's worth having.

Like all insurance, you weigh risk and cost, but I think these guys are ok. Whatever you do, do not accept the first quote over the phone, haggle.

My son had an extended warranty on an alfa romeo, not worth the paper it was written on even though he had it serviced regularly by the dealer. Terry

My son has a small Corsa which I bought for his seventeenth. It came with 6 months warranty and is a 2006 model. Hand brake cable bust so I thought I'd no more to do but take it back to the garage and get them to fit a new cable under the warranty. No chance, it came under some daft warranty that the dealers pay a piddling price for, which looks good but apart from the engine blowing up or the gearbox falling out is absolutely worthless. He is only a student so old Dad coughed up for the repair. Must say I was pretty disappointed I have used the same dealer for 30 years never using any other

Unless a true manufacturers extended warrantee, pretty useless from my experiance. Almost everything can be put down to 'wear and tear' and is thus excluded.

My mate has run porsches for a number of years and has always extended the manufacturers warrantee. Its costs him in the region of £1k for a years extended cover, and before they extend it he has had to replace consumable items like brake discs (at great cost on a 997) that aindependant specialist would say are fine. On the positive he has had replacement gearbox's and engines that have all been covered. Don't believe anyone who says Porsches are reliable....his latest Cayanne GTS which is only 6 months old has had several expensive trips back to the dealer:?
