When I bought my Stag 6 yrs ago it had an oil leak from the same point as yours. The PO had fitted copper washers in an attempt to fix it but it still leaked.
I had the clutch replaced with the updated kit and took the opportunity to clear the vent at the top of the gearbox and fit new gasket to o/d. Leak cured.
The gearbox o/d unit creates heat in operation which pressurises the gearbox/o/d casing bowing oil from the weakest point.
    Hope this helps.

Thanks. I like the idea of ptfe tape as well. Just need to be careful that no bits get into the o/d. I think I might still try and do it with the oil in situ. If it fails then I’ll drain the box.
if I do drain the oil from the gearbox, what do people use to get the new oil into the gearbox. I have seen 1.5 litre syringes advertised. Thanks again. Please see my next question

Will annealed flat washers be OK as sealing washers or do they have to be the rolled type crush washers to make a good seal?

How do you torque up the nuts that bolt the overdrive unit to the adaptor plate? I can't get a socket on let alone the torque wrench!
Do you have to use spanners and guess? I'll have to have practice dry runs with a nut and bolt on the vice until I can get close to the correct torque unless there is another way. I'm scared of over and under tightening though 20lb.ft is quite high.
          Thanks

I just guess but then I have had plenty of experience

The simplest way is to use a spring balance on the end of the spanner.

If you extend the spanner to 12 inches using a bit of tube over the spanner or something like a long socket extension fixed to the spanner with hose clips, you just need a 20lb pull or 10lb if you have a 2 foot bar.
At a push you could even use the wifes kitchen scales to push the bar, just don't let her catch you at it!
