Inhibitor Switch seems to stick occasionally

I have an intermittent problem that of the inhibitor switch seeming to stick..Sometimes when I stop I get back in and nothing...nothing at all... the inhibitor is doing its assignerd job really rather too well..If I jiggle the selector stick or take it and up down vigorously the car will often then start..Clearly something "Old-School"..within.. is sticking is it possible to lubricate the switch or is it just old and knackered..much like the owner!
    Any help much appreciated

    Which gearbox?

I had similar symptoms on my BW35, eventually the switch fell apart in situ and I had to repair it. Adjusting is "interesting".

With my BW35 neither the inhibitor nor reversing lights worked. When I took the old switch out the "plunger" bit was wedged inside the switch and bent. I got a new one from LD parts and now the reversing lights work but not the inhibitor. I guess more "interesting" adjustment is needed.
