1st guess would be the top mount is not turning and therefore the spring is twisting at the bottom, rigid at the top and pushing the poly mount out as it tries to twist. Jack it up, get someone to steer from lock to lock whilst you watch the top of the strut and spring.
May be other her reasons but that would be my first check.
I'm running on memory (never reliable) but I think I read that the spring orientation was important as the spring 'bends' in compression and can come into contact with the inner wing making a difficult to find noise. Could be connected.
