    Auto gearbox dip stick question

I have an oil leak from the dowty seal at the banjo bolt that secures the dipstick tube to the gearbox. The box is a BW35 and I can't find any mention in the ROM about the dip stick being secured to the box with a banjo bolt and dowry seal and Im unsure whether I should sandwich the dip stick tube with a pair of dowty seals or just one.
Can anyone advise what I should do to get the best chance of achieving a oil tight seal?

I use one each side of the banjo, original washers were copper, looking at my pictures , before and after , I also stoned the faces of the dip stick tube to remove any burrs.

    hope this helps

Thanks for your answer, luckily I ordered two of the seals, so I'll do the same.

Interesting photo for your gearbox. My plastic stone guard on my BW35 sits the same. I thought it was too long.

To me it looks like a round guard fitted to a flat housing?, Who else has the same?

Must be a Borg warner/BL thing, rather than a PO bodge

when you remove the dipstick tube does all the oil come out? my guess is it does!

Since you are up there. You may want to check the health your breather pipe . My breather pipe was not routed properly.( That's on another thread. )There is no way you can get your hand up there or see it with a flash / torch light. If you are changing the washers move the pipe and have a look.

A US Stag owner on another a US forum was was looking for the stone guard. She got one from a Jag. I will check with her of it fits flat.

Most modern vehicles, if they have a hole in the bell housing, do not have stone guards, just an empty hole.

Make sure it not slightly over filled, If stored for long periods, Milo used to put a bung in the top of the dip stick tube, mine used to this if not started for a couple of weeks, It seems to be that the torque converts start to drain into the box, flooding it, I believe there is a non return valve in the box that becomes weak because of old age?. The other seal to check is the one one the plastic tube that has the gearbox breather tube attached, it's hard to get at.

                            +1 for checking breather pipe.
Also, the banjo bolt is quite weak & can easily become unevenly stretched, meaning it’s sealing face is no longer perpendicular to the axis.
not much chance to seal once its stretched.

As Martin says, Milo explored to great lengths to size and fit a rubber bung, I did the same and works well.
