I see Moss-europe are offering Triumph manuals on a USB sticks (one for each model). Unfortunately not our Stag. Does anyone know of or heard of a the same happening for the Stag?

Problem is that every .pdf I have seen is of the early ROM, (1973, - basically Mk1) I have never seen one of the later edition (1977, that includes Mk2) They are both useful and have slightly different info so I use both.
Yes, the person who scans in the 1977 edition should have a prize, as well as the unending thanks of our community having Mk2s. I've considered it, but reckon it'll take at least a week

Jonno
That's too funny Jonno! Maybe we should all do a small section each?
These all should be on our own website. All versions of all Triumph manuals for Stag.
We pride ourselves for being THE CLUB FOR STAG but we continually let our members down by being outclassed by Vitesse Steve, StagByTriumph and Grampian Stags.
The trouble with this Club is that we have 5,000 members all wanting things doing but no bugger gets off their arse to actually do it. So it's going to take a week . Well, if you don't start, you'll never finish.
This type of operation should be driven by a Stag orientated webmaster who has some idea of what we can usefully add to the Stag 'catalogue'. They should then target members to assist in getting things scanned in or writing relevant articles - those members having put their name in the frame for such things. For Christ's sake, scanning in a document is only a 'sit on your bum and change the page now and again' process and we must have about 2,000 retired members with time on their hands and a computer. If needs be I'll recommend that the Committee buys scanners for anyone who is prepared to spend time increasing the Club's knowledge base.
Last time I asked whether anyone on the Forum was 'up for it', I got a resounding 'NO!'. Well, it's about time some of those who read the Forum but don't contribute much, actually started to contribute, so I'll ask again 'Who is up for a bit of volunteering ?'.

Peter
Well said, Peter. I think these smaller groups/ individuals who've made major contributions benefit from the small and coherent size which focuses the creative energy. We've benefitted a lot from Dasadrew who developed the technical section on here.
I'd be willing to take on the electrical section if someone is willing to take on the general coordination and producing the final file(s). I don't know how feasible it might be to create a searchable pdf document, but that could be handy.
Issues/ thoughts:
1 - Publishing rights - who currently holds these? Could SOC get a license to copy and distribute? My guess is that the creator of the '72 pdf did a private, unlicensed copy - easier for an individual/ small group than an organisation that may be more likely to be sued for copyright.
2 - Scanning will require the pages to be unbound. They'd need to be in good readable condition. Would SOC buy a new copy for tis?
3 - If SOC can obtain permission, then the best route would be, in my opinion, to get it copied professionally - self-feeding business-use scanners are really fast, but too expensive for home users. Even better if the searchability feature could be included, which may then turn volunteers into proof readers.
I don't want to get too clever (probably because I can't get clever) so lets just try to get a readable pdf copy of the manual.
I have scanned the first section (about 10 pages) from my paperbound copy and have attached/uploaded it . (update on this bit - the session timed out so I'll have to do a bit of finding out how to do this - I will return to it later)
I will admit that it's not perfect but it's readable. If we can get the manual in this format, would that be acceptable ? I personally like 'perfect' but I'm a realist and I'm also not going to tear the pages out of my own manual just so that it can be scanned a bit better.
I will deal with the upside down pages and turn them round but this is a trial to see if everyone thinks that it's a good idea.
Question: Does anyone know if there was a loose leaf version published in 1977 ? I have the loose leaf, factory bound, copies from 1970 and 1973 but I only have the paperback version from 1977. The Club has the 1970 loose leaf but the two copies it has of the 1977 ROM are both bound (one hardback, one paperbound). If there is a loose leaf version available then it will result in a better scan.
Question 2: Now that we have shown willing, does anyone already have a 1977 version in pdf that they would be willing to share and save us a bit of trouble ?
Answers to Jonno's thoughts:
i) I would think that BMW hold the publishing rights. I'm not going to ask them for permission.
ii) Lets see what we can do without unbinding. If we unbind a copy, then it will ahve to be copied by whoever unbinds it or it will have to be dispersed to the people willing to be part of this. Lets stay simple.
iii) SOC won't ask permission for anything. The Committee are s*it scared of asking BMW anything in case they have a think and withdraw what we have already.
Personal observation: The manual is 500 pages, give or take a few. 20 pages an evening and in 25 days it will be done. If we had started in July, it would already be up there, even allowing for taking the bank holiday off.
Alternatively, if ten people do it, it will be done in 3 days - and it will save wear and tear on the manuals used as each person will have just 25 pages to fold over in their scanner.
OK, I can't get anything to upload, it keeps telling me that 'my session has timed out'. Crap programme. I'll get back to you on this.
