    Pusher Fan advice

My cooling system is fine in normal running but in traffic it does get where I have put the heater on which in California on a hot day is not pleasant. I have been toying with the pusher fan and searched the forum and read through a lot of posts. I have found this fan
Spal 30100401 16" Low Profile Fan (Push). Spal cooling fan for car truck and motorcycle radiators, air conditioning condensors and oil coolers

It is made by Spal in Italy they make others so I am in the decision phase. I have a control system which is adjustable for the fan and the sending unit will be in the return hose to the radiator and the fan will be for stop go traffic situations. Can I take the power from the heated rear window circuit since it is not use ? or what would be an alternate circuit. What would be a suitable CFM's rate for the aux fan? Thanks for any help,
    Stuart

Looks remarkably like a Revotec as sold in the UK but cheaper...I fitted a Revotec pusher to my stag but kept the original fan..you might want to investigate the Revotec site it might give you some help?

have fitted a 16 inch electric fan to mine with a thermocouple pushed through the radiator fins 3/4 up the radiator near the top hose.
perhaps a permanent fused live supply is best as it cools the radiator with ignition off as the engine heats up when stood for a few minutes.
that way radiator nice and cool on next start up.
i also have an audi auxiliary electric pump on mine working with the fan on the heater circuit.

I would go for something considerably more powerful.

I made the mistake of fitting a low wattage fan like this on my first attempt and it did very little to help, and the work to fit a feeble one is exactly the same as to fit a decent one.

Sadly the 2 speed kenlowe fans are no longer available, I have 3 of them fitted to various cars and they always did the job. They did have enormous current draw, IIRC about 17 amps for each speed, so needed a dedicated feed straight from the battery.

Can't really offer any advice on what might be best that is currently on the market.

Agree with Neil, especially if you're thinking of removing the viscous-coupled fan. I managed to get the Kenlowe fan they recommended (14EHP B), which shifts 3740 cubic metres/ hour (2200 cf/m) on boost whilst drawing 24A. Extracts from Kenlowe Web Site - Stag.pdfThis blurb makes some comment on relationship of amps to airlow, though I don't think it's linear.

On Normal setting, it draws a measured 18A (airflow not stated). With no VC fan, this meets the needs of my Stag in the recent heat of the UK. If you're keeping the VC fan, then a lower rated fan should be OK. I did try to find current draw of the Revotec fans on the web without much success and would be interested if others have such information.

I believe that Tripac fans are equivalent to the Kenlowe. I bought one of these before and found it to be the same as a friend's Kenlowe in all but name: https://www.merlinmotorsport.co.uk/p...iABEgJGvfD_BwE

These look very similar to the kenlowe fans. The 2 speeds give you some options, have speed 1 controlled automatically with speed 2 on an override switch or some other combination. In the summer we have just had in the UK my cooling system was tested on some of the hottest days and only speed 1 was needed. I have no mechanical fan.

Yes, definitely looks fancied - can't see airflow, but currents align with my observations, so would expect them to be near enough the same. Thanks for the info, I'd wondered what solutions might be available should my Kenlowe bite the dust.

The fan I use uses 15A when running but has a start up draw of around 25 / 30 amps. It requires a relay so taking the low amp feed off the heated screen switch would be ok, but as others have said the main feed should come from the battery.

Not sure if Kenlowe is available in the USA but I would think anything over 2000 c/fm is definitely needed for California. You are lucky being in the US as you have lots of local choice, at local prices!
There are many but for me Spal or 'Maradyne - Champion series' are excellent products. Delta Pag is an amazing product but the price is just crazy. Beware of the cheapies as not all quoted air movement seems believable. May be okay for northern Europe but not for California or us in Australia.
Remember a puller is more effective than a pusher but I doubt anything is going to fit as a puller in the Stag with the viscous removed and bolt shortened. I have not quite got that far in my restoration to do the latest R&D. Ideally something that could fit in the factory shroud would be a great option but even though these modern fans keep coming up with amazing outputs I could be dreaming still in 2018..
At over 100 degrees F/40 degrees Celsius lots of classic cars cooling systems are being tested and everything needs to be in top shape, especially with AC. However the Stag system, even though marginal should not require the heater to be turned on to dissipate heat as you mention, not sure if you have the shroud and you should probe further.
                    Good luck.

"Feels Like" temperature was 115 degrees\F today here on the east coast.. I take the MG out before 9am only!!

It wouldn't overheat.. But I would!! Pretty sure now that I will recommission the a/c on the Stag, my English blood is boiling..

We do see 110 F degree days here (43 Celsius) in Melbourne Aust. but boy that is hot where you are!
Cities like Perth or Adelaide though do get these temperatures often...Nevertheless you couldn't run a car here without AC. I cant wait for summer, not! Our winters are very mild, it never snows in the cities.
It was a terrible decision of Leyland Australia though not to bring the cars here without the factory integrated AC. We are still just a 'backwater' here but we have managed to get the integrated hybrid units to work very well.
You are lucky you have the integrated system Terry. I would be recommissioning that for sure!

That's a "feels like" temp, I don't think I have seen it that high in my 30 years here. The actual temp was higher last week and is now "only" in the mid 90's (I do remember a couple of 103's ) but the humidity has been climbing and at the moment is so high its like a sauna. We do get snow, over 30 inches occasionally, the odd hurricane, though I am to far inland for that to bother us except for downed trees so its never boring here..

I plan on only keeping the original evaporator (inside the heater box) and its controls but the rest will be modern, R34 compressor etc. I was going to make the decision later but it has been made. As you say it prevents me wanting to use the old cars when its this hot.

Also planning an electric water pump and fan but will retain the viscous unit to keep the under-hood temps down. The 67 MG had marginal cooling when I first got it but a simple fan shroud and plastic fan (to replace the old metal one) really sorted it out, it can easily handle the hot days now.
