Whilst I still have the hard top on thought I would take the Stag to the car wash at my local garage this morning. Got there O.K. and there was no queue so paid my 3 Euros for a token and drove straight in. 1st problem was when the big rollers were moving from the rear of the car to the front they lited the boot open and gave it a wash inside (I must not have closed the boot properly earlier). As I dashed forward into the car wash the boot slammed itself down by itself so I did not get a drenching having to do it myself whilst it was still spraying water on the car.
By the time the wash cycle had finished quite a queue had formed behind me of other cars wanting to enter the washing bay. I jumped in the Stag to drive it out and it would not start - nothing at all, not even the dreaded click. After apologising to the man behind me in my best Spanish saying I had a problem, I extracted a "wet" crowbar from the boot, opened the bonnet and gave the starter motor a few quick bashes. It then started at the 1st turn of the key and I was away leaving the car owners behind me to abandon their reversing manouvers and drive forwards again.
Why is it when the car does not start it is never when you are on your own, and always when there is a crowd around.
Anyway the reason for washing the car is that I have been informed by a friend who has a P1800 Volvo here (Saints car) that there is a Classic Car Rallye tomorrow starting just down the road and heading into the hills somewhere - so we are both going. Whether we need to be members of the Club running it to join in I do not know - will find out tomorrow. Where we will end up I also do not know but I will take the camera and see what cars turn up and whether it is just a ride out or time trial. Should be interesting to find out. Will keep you posted. I think the Club organising the event is the one whose President drives a Red Stag - will see.
