Core plug under coil

Since I've owned the car oil has accumulated in the core plug that is situated on top of the engine underneath the coil. I have bought a new plug and tonight attempted to remove the old one. I was going to hit it on the side return with a drift to pivot it so that I could pull it out but when I hit it the plug dropped by another 10mm. I have now lost my nerve! The plug now sits about 20mm down. Can anyone advise how far down their core plug is from the top of the block down to the recess of the plug? Would it be possible to hammer it through into the engine void by mistake? Should I leave it as is and just fit the new core plug over the top of the old one (sealed with hylomar)?

good question! a while ago I found oil in the same area, cleaned it out and it hasn't returned, possibly from the dizzy? anyone else had this?
I have moved my coil to the bulkhead to avoid it overheating so is this the possible source?

Hi Steve,
thanks for the reply. It's not dripping from the coil and I've replaced the dizzy o-ring. I'm going to see if it still collects oil now that I've hammered it in further. If it does I'll drop a new one over the top sealed with hylomar - I can't see it being a problem having 2 core plugs stacked on top of each other. It's not into the water jacket so there is no pressure behind them

Jon, couldn't find any concrete answer to mine, just seems to have stopped since cleaned, let us know how you get on
