    Torque settings ?

    Hi all,

Am yet to purchase a manual, so can anyone tell me the correct torque settings for a standard set of mk2alloy wheels?

    Thanks

    Hello Stagster

Just looked in the BL repair manual and it doesn't mention alloys at all just steel and wires. However looking in Haynes they recommend alloy wheel nuts to be tightened to100lbf ft in old money or 13.9 kgf m in metric. Must admit never checked mine on any car ... just wind them up in sequence till they feel right

    Hope that helps

        Hi Stagster

I have always done my wheels up with 70 ftlb of Torque which I find good enough for the alloy wheel nuts as they are easy to strip!

            Hi

I have 4 alloy wheels on the car but the spare is a steel. I also have a set of 4 steels for originality. Any advice on running with the spare plus 3 alloys if I have a puncture? Also do I need a different set of wheel nuts/studs for use with the steel wheel?

            Thanks

            Paul

              Paul,

You will need a set of nuts suitable for the steel wheel as they are completely different to the ones for the alloy wheels and not interchangeable.

As long as the tyres are of the same size and speed rating there should be no issues running with a steel spare.

                Hi

I think the simplest solution would be to acquire an extraalloy as the spare. Are the wheels from a triumph 2000,2500,tr6 etc identical? I shall go to our local breakers yard tomorrow and see what is available so a speedy response would be appreciated.

Regards and thanking all for the help. I like this forum. It is amazing what you can learn and it is so laid back.

                  Hi DJT and others,

I found I had three wheel nuts for steel wheels and picked up a fourth at the breakers. Job done.
